March Meeting Minutes
Coleto Creek Amateur Radio Club March 3, 2016 Attending: Hurshel Pruitt - WB5MEX, Harvey Babb - WB5MCT, Jimmy Podsim - KD5QHH and Luci Podsim - KD5RIF Meeting called to order at 7:30 PM. Previous minutes were read by Luci. Jimmy moved to accept the minutes as read, second by Harvey, motion passed. Treasurer’s Report: No report, treasurer absent. Public Relations: Nothing to report. Points of Interest: The Midland Hamfest will be March 19. Hurshel plans to attend. The Houston Hamfest will be on that same weekend, as well as the Kiwanis Bike Ride in Victoria. This year is the first year for Ham involvement in the bike ride. If anyone wishes to volunteer, contact Stacey Weaver. The Extra class question pool is set to change in July. It is rumored to be more difficult than the current question pool. It is strongly suggested that anyone who has been studying to upgrade make sure that they test before July. The FCC has put the topic of making call signs good for a person’s lifetime out for discussion. Old Business: Repeater: We need to find the time to finish the work on the repeater. We still need to put the connector on the half inch feed line and swap the repeater and antenna from the LMR feed line to the half inch feed line. Jimmy mentioned that he has two bird meters from Cliff that are set up to read forward and reflected power. He asked if anyone had any two meter slugs so that we can put the meters in line for a reference point when working on or simply checking over the repeater. No one has any so Harvey looked up the price of slugs and found that they cost about $86 each. It was decided that we will not use the bird meters. Tower: The club needs to make a final decision regarding the disposition of the tower currently being stored in Jimmy and Luci’s back yard. It has long since been determined that the club cannot afford to erect it and the possible sale of the tower fell through when it was discovered to be damaged. It cannot be stored where it is indefinitely. Jimmy said that he may be able to find someone who will take it away but the club cannot expect to get any thing for it. After some discussion on the subject, Luci moved to allow Jimmy to find someone to haul the tower away. Second by Harvey, motion passed.
